Colum joined TVAS (Ireland) Ltd in 2010. He has worked as a director on the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy road scheme from testing to excavation and post-excavation report writing. This was followed by directing a number of sites on the N52 Carrickbridge to Clonfad road scheme Co. Westmeath.

Prior to joining TVAS, Colum spent 12 years with VJK Archaeology Ltd. as both a licensed director and senior project archaeologist. He has worked on a number of small and large scale projects including the new County Buildings in Mullingar, housing development in Clane Co. Kildare and as a director on several major infrastructural road projects including the N6 Kinnegad to Kilbeggan, N7/M7 Castletown to Nenagh and the N8/M8 Cashel to Cullahill road schemes.

He has also completed reports on the route selection for the N24 Carrick-on-Suir Bypass and for Iarnrod Eireann on their upgrade of level crossings for the western route corridor. Colum also held the role of senior project archaeologist on the N6 Galway to Ballinalsoe road scheme and for the post-excavation phases of the N6 Ballinalsoe to Athlone and N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford schemes.

In 2009 and 2010 Colum devised and taught an archaeology course for students participating in the Centre for Talented Youth of Ireland (CTYI) at Dublin City University.
